About Surrendering your Rescue Dog
Herd U Needed A Home canine rescue (HUNAH) is a foster-based organization dedicated to herding dogs. We do not operate a physical shelter; instead, all of our dogs are placed in foster homes throughout the Pacific Northwest. Due to our commitment to safety, we cannot accept dogs with a bite history, as it poses a risk to our fosters, their families, and other animals on the property.
Additionally, we mainly work with herding-type breeds such as Border Collies, Heelers, Australian Shepherds and Kelpies, and McNabs. We do, however, sometimes rescue other breeds in need of new situations and homes. Thank you for your understanding.
If you are looking for our assistance in re-homing your dog, please start by completing the online form below. Once submitted, the surrender process will commence.
We understand that this decision is both difficult and challenging, and we will do our best to make the process as smooth and painless as possible.
Apply to Surrender your Dog
It may take 3-5 business days to get back to you. If you don't hear from us after that, feel free to email hunahsurrenders@gmail.com.
You have now applied to Surrender your dog to HUNAH
What happens now?
Once our Surrender Coordinator reviews the form they will get in touch with you by the email you supplied on your application.
What is the timeline?
The entire process, including finding a foster home, transporting the dog, medical attention if needed, can anywhere from a few days to a few months, depending on the individual circumstances. Much will depend on the availability of finding the 'correct' foster home and at times we are limited by their availability. Once your dog has been place in a HUNAH foster home, the adoption team assumes responsibility of the dog and finding a new forever home. Please keep in mind that we are all volunteers and do our best to act quickly. Please feel free to reach out if you are concerned.
Who will you be working with going forward?
You will typically be dealing with our Surrender Coordinators during the surrender process. Once your dog is placed in a HUNAH foster home, the adoption team assumes responsibility for finding your dog a forever home.
